Judging of Wensleydale classes at the 2016 Great Yorkshire Show took place at Harrogate on Tuesday 12 July. Judge was Mr Roger Field of Ferrensby, Knaresborough, North Yorkshire shadowed by trainee judge Miss Laura Beaton of Green Hammerton, York.
The breed champion was an aged ram (two-shear) bred and exhibited by Ernie Sherwin of Nosterfield, North Yorkshire who was awarded the Leeds Smithfield Club’s Trophy for the breed championship and the Freda Elliott Silver Challenge Trophy offered by the Elliott family in her memory for the champion male.
Reserve breed champion went to Mrs Julie Pennell’s yearling ewe who was also awarded the William Barton Parkinson Trophy (offered by the WLSBA) for the best yearling ewe.
