Melton – National Native and Traditional Breeds Show and Sale

This event is one of the two official Shows and Sales of the Association – an excellent source of quality stock, all carefully examined by WLSBA inspectors. The 2016 event was held at Melton Mowbray Auction Mart (contact Melton Mowbray Mart: 01664 562971 or sales@meltonmowbraymarket.co.uk). Judging took place on Friday 9th September and the Sale on Saturday 10th September 2016

Breed Champion and Best Female Exhibit: S Holdich (shearling ewe). Awarded the Outlane Trophy.

Reserve and male Champion:  J & S Thompson (ram lamb). Awarded the Angela Trew Trophy for best opposite sex to Champion.

Reserve Female Champion: J & S Thompson (Ewe lamb)

Reserve Male champion: S Holdich (Shearling ram)

Best Black exhibit: S Holdich (Ram). Awarded the Upper Mill Trophy for best black exhibit.

Sale report

Overall the number of entries was small with only 6 females forward (4 ewes and 2 ewe lambs) and 11 males (8 rams and 3 ram lambs). 12 sheep sold (3 ewes, 2 ewe lambs, 6 rams and 1 ram lamb) with prices averaging 162.75 guineas.

Top price went to Graham Steventon & Lynn Clouder’s third prize winning shearling ram sold to Jim and Sandra Thompson for 220 guineas, while the Thompson’s ram lamb made 205 guineas. Average price for rams was 175.88 guineas and for ram lambs 215.25 guineas.

Top price for ewes was 120 guineas (average 115.50 guineas), and ewe lambs 160 guineas (average 168 guineas).
