There were three Wensleydale exhibitors at Staffordshire County Show held on the 29th and 30th May 2024 just outside of Stafford. Competing in a strong “Longwool” section with other breeds such as Leicester Longwool, Teeswater, Cotswold and Devon and Cornwall Longwools they put on a strong show.
Anna Pennells’ homebred Wensleydale hogg in wool took the Overall Longwool Championship having won through the shearling class with Nicki and Pete Hodkinsons Hogg in Wool finishing 3rd in the class just split by a Teeswater hogg. Nicki and Pete’s hogg went on to take 2nd in the Wool on the Hoof competition held on the Thursday too.
Well done also to new young member Edward Leigh who showed his first homebred ewe lamb to a great 4th place in the ewe lamb class as well as showing her dam in the Young Handlers class the next day. We look forward to seeing his adventures with Wensleydales over the next few years and beyond.
In the Interbreed competition the following day A Pennells’ Wensleydale hogg went onto stand 6th Overall by Interbreed judge Mr B Cooper
