Wensleydales dominated the classes at this weeks Royal Norfolk Show in very strong company from many Longwool breeds.
With 5 Wensleydale exhibitors forward for the Any Other Longwool section Julie & Anna Pennells homebred Hogg took the red rosette with Serena Plenderleith and Sue Holdich taking 2nd and 3rd above Teeswaters, Leicester’s, Grey Face dartmoors and Devon and Cornwall Longwools. The same ewe also went onto the take the overall section Championship. Mark Elliott’s Wensleydale gimmer lamb triumphed in a 16 strong class and Serena Plenderleiths Shearling Ram in full wool took the top honours in his own class as well. The group of 3 was won by Julie & Anna Pennells trio of Wensleydale hoggs and ram lamb.
In the Wool tent Wensleydales won both the Longwool and Natural coloured section with the Pennells white fleece taking the championship with Sue Holdichs natural coloured fleece in reserve.
The next day saw Sue Holdich fight off great competition from all Longwools to take top honours in the Wool on the Hoof competition, this time with Serena Plendeleith coming second and Sue’s Hogg went onto to the overall Wool on the Hoof championship as well 👏🏼👏🏼
Finally in the Interbreed group of three, Julie and Anna Pennells’ trio finished second.
A great few days for the breed and lovely to gather together so many breed enthusiasts at the Royal Norfolk show!
