The Wensleydale Longwool Sheep Breeders’ Association held their annual AGM on Saturday 13th April at the Tempest Arms, Skipton. The meeting was chaired by WLSBA President the Hon. Dame Susan Cunliffe-Lister and was concluded by a very interesting and informative talk from the current Master Woolman, Mr Andrew Dawson from the Worshipful Company of Woolmen. After the ordinary business of the meeting was complete the Association trophies to the winners from the 2018 season.
Winning the Exhibitor of the Year and taking the historic William H Rhodes Trophy was Julie & Anna Pennell. Mark Elliott was presented with the Ruth Pedley Memorial Trophy for the most notable Interbreed Achievement of the year for his Interbreed Championship taken at Melton Mowbray Traditional & Native Breed show & sale held in September 2018.
Young member Laura Beaton was presented the WLSBA Trophy for Young Achiever after her success winning the Young Handler section at the 2018 Great Yorkshire Show. The Cornist Trophy was presented to Chris Stacey for accumulating the most points in non-breed classes and the Earle Trophy was presented to Sandra Brown following her success in the Golden Fleece competition in 2017 with her spectacular Black Wensleydale fleece.
The Wensleydale Longwool Sheep Breeders’ Association is looking forward to a busy 2019 with a growing number of flocks registering lambs each year as demand is rising for their highly desired fleece.
