NIDDERDALE SHOW WENSLEYDALE SHEEP RESULTS
At the Nidderdale Agricultural Show held on Sunday 21st September at Bewerley Park, Jessica Talbot found her champion in Ernie Sherwin’s homebred shearling ram, also reserve going to the same home with a two shear ewe.
Sadly, the previous day’s adverse weather deterred some exhibitors from the show, having received a record 69 ml of rain the previous day, the show committee had to relocate 30% of the sheep pens having arrived to find them submerged underwater on show day but this did not deter Mary Smith and Ernie Sherwin to attend the show to represent the breed and enjoying basking in the sunshine on show day.
A great show for sheep and many enquiries received for both sheep and wool. Ernie also met Vincent Pierce to be awarded the best Wensleydale fleece on the hoof. Vincent a direct descendant of Lawrence Pierce (Wool Merchants) Ltd had flown over that morning from County Wexlow, Ireland to judge the wool classes at Nidderdale show. He said he was always impressed with Wensleydale wool for its lustre, consistency of purl, durability and versatility.
